Hilda's Happings
Update March 13, 2010

Hello from Aspengrove!

Spring has arrived.  We are already seeing some green sprouts in the field.  The horses have also spotted the greens and are not so interested in the hay and actually leaving some untouched.  It is always a treat to see the green grass but it also means in just a short time, I will have to take them off the pasture for a good part of the day.  Those fresh shoots are the ones that cause laminitis.

Presently we have 9 horses in the field, 7 of our own and 2 boarders (one is Chloe, who used to live here.)  With the success of last year’s camps and a lot of requests, we are again going to offer 3 weeks of camps this year.  For those of you who did not know, we held 2 weeks of camps last year, total 12 students per week, some with their own horses and we used the few we still had left.  Angie taught and everyone had a great time.  The remaining horses which will be for sale at the end of the camps are:  Peanut, Irish, Peaches, Nola, Smokey, Rosie, and Breezy.  Miraina was sold last year after using her for 2 weeks for camp, to Emily Hinse from Calgary who is having a great time with her. I have updated the web site with the dates of the camps.  As we only have selected horses left, if you want a spot we recommend you book soon.

A few changes have been made to Aspengrove.  We added a 2nd residence on the property for Alisha, my daughter, who has been helping out here for many years, and her husband and my 1 year old granddaughter Cassandra.  Alisha and I are going to promote other uses for the facility until I finally make the decision and get serious about selling Aspengrove.  Uses in the works will be family reunions, getaways and retreats, workshops, the leasing of the facility to clubs, church groups and riding instructors as well as any groups that just want to get away with or without horses.  We welcome any ideas that you may have.  In the past we have leased the facility to 4-H clubs and pony club for weekends.  We are just in the process of updating the web site with an outline of what we are offering with prices etc.

I would also like to offer for sale at this time, a 22 acre piece of land without a residence with several great building sites.  This property is situated on the bottom half of my acreage.  If you are interested or know someone who is, it is offered on www.okhomeseller.com  listing 26150.  This property could be used for either a residence or perhaps a small house or cabin for a retreat.

I would also like to let everyone know that Aspengrove is also available for reasonable pasture board.  If not residing in the area and you have a horse that requires a vacation from the city and would like to run in the fields for awhile and enjoy the freedom, give us a call.

Thanks again for all the emails and updates of what everyone is doing.
